In the beginning..... what do you mean you can't see it? Yes, there is a house in there. Abandoned for 40 years!
How did I find it? The local kids in Silver City called it the 'haunted house.' Of course the adults had to check it out. The hardwood floors were still in great condition, and the woodwork of clear pine was not painted. There is a fireplace too, original, and all set to go. however....

The old shed that was torn off, see the hinges?
After clearing the brush, we needed to tear off the old shed, re-roof, re-wire. plumb, insulate.... ugh.

The original building before the new roof/storms & paint.
The roof raising was hair raising.

You can see here where we raised the roof line. The second floor is the favorite room of customers, they say, wow this would be an awesome bedroom!
Storm windows going on, porch, and a new roof!

These original french doors were moved, and you can see the original fireplace.
Leaving a potato chip bag in the window is not a good idea in Silver City. The BEARS find everything!

The ceiling party was fun..... after it was finished!
The day the sign was picked up was exciting. Here John and I contemplate putting it up.

The second floor took an additional year and a half to complete. Floors were replaced with locally milled pine to stay in keeping with the rest of the house.

Great Lakes Trading today is a wonderful adventure. The house itself is a treasure! It has a great feeling and the most frequently asked question by my customers is: Why don't you live here?
